Yes, you can go to Nepal in your own car. But the following documents are required.

Valid Registration Certificate :- Your vehicle must be legally registered in India & you must have original RC papers at the time you are entering Nepal.

Valid Driving License : – Driver must possess a valid Indian driving license (Permanent Only) for driving a suitable vahicle, i.e on two wheeler’s license you can’t drive four wheeler vehicle. Also your driving license must at least be valid for the period you are in Nepal, & this also must be available with you in oiginal.

Valid Insurance Copy : – Your car should insured & original insurance certificate must be available. Also check whether your insurance is valid in Nepal or not, if not then before you start your travel get your policy endorsed for Nepal from your insurance company. By doing this you will be secured against any accidental damage in Nepal.

Must Take Bhansar :- While entering Nepal through the land border, you must pay the required fee & get Bhansar (Customs) papers from the border.

Must Take Yatayat Anumati :- After getting your bhansar paper you must obtain Yatayat Anumati Patra (Travel Permit) from the relevant office.

If you are an Indian citizen then you don’t need VISA to enter Nepal either by Air OR by Road. But if you are a PIO card holder (Person of Indian Origin) then you must get VISA before entering Nepal in any which way.

For any Indian citizen, voter’s ID card & passport are the only documents that prove your nationality as Indian, the rest of other documents like an ADHAR card, PAN Card, or any other such cards is considered as your proof of identity.

So, as the rule says Indian citizens don’t require VISA, so you have to prove that you are an Indian & for this you must carry either voter’s ID Card OR a passport (both in original, xerox copy not accepted).

However, kids of age below 12 years & elders above 65 years are exempted from this rule; they can travel on ADHAR Card provided they are traveling in a group with people who have either voter’s ID cards OR passports.
